Pearls

• Displaced fractures (2 mm displacement or more than 10° dorsal or plantar angulation) may require surgery.
• Surgery may allow athletes to return to sport earlier.
• Most fractures will be treated with non-operative management and WBAT in a CAM boot or walking cast.
• An initial period of protected weight bearing in a splint or CAM boot with crutches for support is reasonable from the ED.
• Typically caused by rotational force while plantar flexed.
