Pearls

  • Injury is frequently related to blunt trauma at the end of a swing: golf club, baseball bat, tennis racket.
  • Use Carpal Tunnel View X-ray to diagnose.
  • Obtain contralateral X-rays for comparison.
  • Hook fractures have high rates of non-union and can require excision of the hamate hook.
  • Displaced body fractures generally require surgery.

Complications

Can be associated with fracture of the 4th or 5th metacarpal.
