Pearls

• Can present with knee pain. Have a low threshold to X-ray the hip of children presenting with knee pain.
• Obtain contralateral hip AP and frog leg X-ray as part of the work-up.
• Consider endocrine workup if patient less than 10 years-old or in lower 10th percentile for height/weight based on age.

Complications

Can develop further displacement if the patient is allowed to ambulate.

High rate of AVN in unstable fractures.
